PREPARING ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL REPORTS We worked with this automotive sector company to help it prepare its environmental and social report. This involved the collection not only of relevant performance data across the organisation, but also of more qualitative information about initiatives, illustrating, for example, how the company was pursuing continual improvement. We also advised the company on how best to develop the report to extend its alignment with the recommendations of the Global Reporting Initiative. A report, incorporating performance data, case studies and illustrative material, was drafted in a form suitable for publication either as a traditional document or as a series of linked web pages.
EMS IMPLEMENTATION WITHIN A SMALL ENGINEERING COMPANY This small, dynamic engineering company recognised that the interest of the main automotive companies in environmental management could soon extend to their suppliers. In implementing environmental management, the company also wished to take advantage of government grants available at the time to help small companies. With its own resources extremely limited, it needed external help. EMAG helped the company apply for funding. It worked with the resources the company could make available, firstly, to complete the initial environmental review and draft an environmental policy, and, secondly, to prepare the environmental management documentation and implement the system.
INTERNAL ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT COURSES As part of the implementation of an EMS, this automotive company needed to equip a pool of internal environmental auditors with the skills, techniques and tools to carry out effective environmental audits of its EMS at various UK sites. EMAG's approach is based on many years of training environmental auditors internationally, using fundamental audit skills training. We prepared and delivered 3 and 4 day courses at over 10 different sites over a year, involving more than 200 participants. The company subsequently successfully achieved ISO 14001 certification.
